Diaper Watch: Finally!

Well, someone picked up that dirty diaper in the Margaret-Court parking lot. It's gone as of today, Saturday, May 29. Of course, it didn't take too long for another litterer to decorate the spot, this time with a soda can. But at least spilt soda isn't as much of a health hazard.

All that was needed was a rogue lab tech to dump radioactive waste next to the diaper that sat there and great destruction would have resulted:

"Run for your lives -- it's Diaperzilla!!!"

Diaper Watch: Day 14

For those of you who came in late, I've been photographically documenting this soiled diaper still sitting in a downtown parking lot. My first image dates back to May 15th. See the other repetitive shots in this series below.

Good thing that downtown Plattsburgh is cleaned up for the three-day holiday weekend. After all, impressions are important to visitors, especially if you want them to come back.

Maybe it'll mutate in the hot sun, grow legs and scurry away. That'll probably happen before the City of Plattsburgh does anything.

Diaper Watch Day 11

Still there in the city parking lot on the corner of Margaret and Court. I originally imaged it on May 15th. And there's an added bonus, a busted beer bottle waiting to puncture someone's tire, right in the same parking slot. Both images taken 5/25/10 around 8 PM.

Squirrelly

Look who's moved into the neighborhood on Clinton Street. Don't maintain your building and all sorts of critters will take up residence. Gee, did I hear something about how squirrels like to chew on electrical wires and start a fire? Years ago water backed up on a flat rooftop on the same street -- the drain was clogged -- and BOOM! -- instant flooding to all the apartments below. I always wonder about the building inspector's office, how it's keeping up with checking out city properties.

Stucko

In downtown Plattsburgh you're more apt to see stucko -- stuff sticking to a wall like this chocolate cupcake -- than stucco. And the public ends up as the stuckee.

Diaper Deja Vu

I'm wandering around downtown Plattsburgh, taking shots of the evening sky. As I'm walking by the city parking lot on the corner of Court and Margaret streets I notice an object lying in one spot. It's the same soiled diaper I had posted about on May 16th.

Back in August 2005 I featured a dirty diaper lying in Margaret Street for over two weeks in the hot sun before it was finally removed. Someone would park their car right next to it day after day; the driver just stepped over it.

Maybe this latest diaper will break the old record held by that one.

Plattsburgh Is Bananas About Litter

I've noticed a trend lately around the city. The preferred fruit among litterers is the banana. Some people are trying to eat healthier while leaving unhealthy discards behind.

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise article, dated 3/31/10, is headlined "Police give the scoop on River Walk dog poop," but the warning from the Saranac Lake police chief is no joke. Chief Bruce Nason wanted to remind every dog-owner that there was a village ordinance that required picking up after his pet or face a fine of $75.

$75? Hey, come to Plattsburgh and save money. It's only $25 to crap in the park or anywhere else, according to the city charter.

The ADE article also mentioned that the village police have been asked to increase patrols on the River Walk "due to complaints of a higher-than-usual amount of dog feces." Also, there was the possibility that police might install cameras to catch scofflaws.

I'm no fan of cameras on every corner but if a couple could help to cut down on dogshit, then go ahead.

The Saranac Lake village police are taking a proactive role about the local dogshit problem. Plattsburgh's mayor wants to save the city money. So if city police officers are too busy to enforce the law regarding dogshit, to handle their job doody, maybe the city could hire Dr. Doo on a part-time basis. After all, privatization of services is supposed to save money. And in this case, it could also save on shoe-scraping.
